Pim Koeslag takes majority stake in Christiaan van der Klaauw Astronomical Watches
Master watchmaker Pim Koeslag has acquired a major interest in the exclusive watch workshop Christiaan van der Klaauw Astronomical Watches. Koeslag was assisted in this acquisition by Conseiller.
Pim Koeslag joins the existing management team of Christiaan van der Klaauw as technical director, in addition to Daniël Reintjes (CEO/Creative Director) and Maria Reintjes (Marketing Director), who will also remain as shareholders. With the arrival of Koeslag, continuity for the future of Christiaan van der Klaauw Astronomical Watches is guaranteed.
About Christiaan van der Klaauw Astronomical Watches
Christiaan van der Klaauw started his own watch workshop and in 1974 presented his first clock with astronomical complications. In 1989 he became an honorary member of the Swiss Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants, the association of independent watchmakers. In 1996 he presented the Planetarium, a watch with the smallest mechanical Planetarium in the world.
In 2009 a new era dawned. Christiaan van der Klaauw had reached his retirement age and sold the company to the designer couple Daniël and Maria Reintjes with whom he had had a business relationship for 10 years. Daniel and Maria have started repositioning the brand. Under their new management, the focus was completely focused on astronomical watches only and ‘Astronomical Watches’ was added to the name. Created a new collection and beautiful astronomical genesis. In addition, two special Planetarium masterpieces were developed exclusively for the jewelery house Van Cleef & Arpels.
In 13 years, the CVDK company has developed into a niche: the only high-end watch workshop in the world that has fully developed in the design and handmade astronomical watches. In 2016, the CVDK atelier de Haute Horlogerie received recognition from the Fondation Haute Horlogerie. Last year, Daniel and Maria received the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève – The Calendar and Astronomy Watch Prize for the CVDK Planetarium Eise Eisinga as master watches in the world in Switzerland.
About Pim Koeslag
Pim Koeslag was born in 1981 in Almelo. At the age of 18 he started at the Horlogemakers School of Amsterdam, where he won the prize for best watchmaker at school. This success gave him the opportunity to receive extensive training at Patek Philippe in Geneva. After graduating, he started working for Frederique Constant as technical director. Koeslag is also responsible for the start-up of the luxury brand Ateliers deMonaco.
After living and working in Geneva for over 20 years, it was time for a new phase in his life and Koeslag returned to the Netherlands. Exactly when Daniël and Maria Reintjes were able to strengthen their company Christiaan van der Klaauw Astronomical Watches to prepare for the next phase.
